apis mellifera - the ‘Western Honeybee’

Apis Mellifera, the Western Honeybee is responsible for a significant amount of the food we consume on a daily basis. Classified as ‘livestock’, these insects impact our lives on a daily basis. There are (5) primary species: Russian, Buckfast, Carniolan, Caucasian, and Italian with each having their own positive and negative attributes. At the 4 Queens Sanctuary, we raise Italians as they are one of the more gentle strains and are known for their honey production. You can learn more about bees by visiting our blog section.
