Vision
A US Navy veteran, David has always had an interest in farming and raising bees from his youth; thus it seemed natural to use the farm to start a bee apiary. In 2019, we started with our first hive and watched it grow into 5 hives - overall it was a year of learning. We continue to work and learn as much as we can in order to be good stewards to the bees and land.
“The vision for the farm is to be good land stewards through conservation projects and habitat management efforts in order to leave the land better than when we acquired it. The result is the creation of a venue where friends and family can visit and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors and all Southern Illinois has to offer. ”
Through research, David learned of non-profit organizations that support veterans in their desire to transition to a farming career. In 2019, the 4 Queens Sanctuary became a member of the Farmers Veteran Coalition and was awarded the Homegrown by Heroes trademark for products and goods. Additionally, David partners with the US Department of Agriculture, Farm Service Agencies and habitat focused non-profit organizations to identify and implement initiatives to improve the habitat and native flora for not only the bees but for all wildlife.
